PHILEMON 1 NOTES
- Philemon is somebody who is dearly beloved of Paul. Paul does not use these terms loosely.
- Philemon is a fellow member of the body of Christ doing the work of the ministry.
- Philemon has a Church in his house.
- The Church is not the building with a beautiful steeple, the Church is the body of Christ – the people.
- People tend to believe that having a Church meet in a persons home is wrong, but it is not. People who want to know the Lord will go wherever He is.
- Archippus is a fellow soldier. If you are a fellow soldier you are going to endure hardness and suffer certain things because you recognize you’re in the midst of a battle.
- Church is an army, we don’t walk around in beautiful flowing gowns, we are soldiers.
- Apphia was a woman who is thought to have been related by Philemon.
- Paul uses fellow laborer for someone of like standing as himself.
- Paul refers to both this woman and this man as soldiers, and the Church is in Philemon’s house (without a steeple).
- The Church is in their house because there are 2 of them and the Word says wherever 2 or more are gathered in my name, there I am in the midst of thee.
