Notes for Sunday SC 2021-05-02

SPEAKER:

  • Steve Atherton

SCRIPTURES USED:

  • Ephesians 4:11, Romans 5, Ephesians 5:21

SUBJECT/NOTES:

  • Forsake your way and cleave unto Him. The tribulations are perfecting your trust in Christ Jesus.
  • When you stand in the place of belief, if you will believe God, everybody will see God is with you.
  • God is an extraordinary God and does extraordinary things through those that choose to believe Him. When you stand in not being concerned about yourself anymore, you can do extraordinary things.
  • The gospel spreads because when you believe on Christ people will see that God is with you. Are you busy going about to try to establish your own righteousness?
  • He has finished His work; you can be a part of that if you walk by faith in Him and in love for others.
  • It doesn’t take great skill to be in the army of God, He’s the one that provides everything to you.
  • You’re only saved by the grace of God, if you acknowledge that as Christians you can now reach people.
  • As Christians we have different functions, which is good, none of us can do all things. You have an effectual purpose to carry out in Christ’s body; you have to walk that out in faith not by a checklist.
  • If you choose to serve God then you can be a part of His things, if you don’t then you won’t.
  • You can trust God, He is trustworthy.
  • When each part of the body supplies, all are blessed. If you’re part of the body, you have to be willing to receive from one another. If you can’t receive from one another the body is going to die.

SCRIPTURES USED:

  • Luke 4: 18-19, Psalm 51:1-6, Psalm 103:1-12, Matthew 16:18

SUBJECT/NOTES:

  • Think of all the hurt, fears, anguish as burnt toast; even if we don’t smell the stink it’s still lingering. Christ is the way to get free from all the stink.
  • Christ wants you to be delivered from the weight of all of the hurt, fear, cares, and worries. Christ wants you to be completely free from the broken-hardheartedness, the bruising and crushing. Ask Him and let Him do the freeing.
  • He knows all the things to be able to repair them, if you will just give them to Him He will repair them.
  • Ministers are a conduit of God’s love and mercy. You can be used by Him once you’ve been freed by Him, you just have to get out of the way.
  • Christ came to heal the broken-hearted, He came to set the captives free, to bring new life.
  • Christ went to the cross to liberate you from your old self, to set you free from all those past things.
  • He can, He did and He will; if you just allow Him.
  • When you live on the defensive you can never win the game. Most people coop in life by being defensive. When you’re in defense mode, you cannot love. When you are free you can now go on the offensive. When you are free and realize you have power, you can love anyone, you can minister out of love. Love is what prevails.
  • When you are set free, you are set free to love. When you are set free to love, you are set free indeed.

SCRIPTURES USED:

  • Galatians 5:1-6, James 1:2-4, Romans 7:14-25, Luke 22:42-44, Galatians 3:13-14, Romans 4

SUBJECT/NOTES:

  • Do you require love to do that which you want to do? No, the times that require love is when you’re doing something you don’t want to do.
  • The people haven’t changed, the church is wrong. The church hasn’t been walking by faith and love.
  • You choose to love the person in front of you, then God’s love comes down. If you want to see God move, you have to walk in His love. You have to stand in circumstances that are too big for you, because then you can see Him move.
  • Christ took all the sin on the cross, He then tells us to love one another as He has loved us.
  • Be honest with yourself, you don’t like circumstances that are taller than you. We don’t want to give love to someone who is completely unlovable at the time, by nature.
  • The walk of faith and love is not believing what the flesh tells you.
  • Love has patience, even through people making wrong decision after wrong decision until they can see the wrong decision and make the right decision.
  • Get down to the truth that you don’t savor the things of God but you savor the things of this world. You have to make the choice to savor the things of God.
  • The law has nothing to do with being a Christian, walking in love and faith has everything to do with being a Christian.
  • Do you hope for that which you can see? No, once you’ve found it you no longer look for it.
  • If you want to have a tenacious type faith you pass through things and God sees you through. It is an impossibility if you’re going to walk in Christ Jesus for you not to be awesome. If you’re going to walk in Christ you’re going to have to walk in His awesomeness. There’s no way around the responsibility of being a Christian.
  • God moves by faith in love. Will you embrace the walk of faith in love so that others can receive the same blessing that you have received?

SCRIPTURES USED:

  • John 15, 2 John 1, Colossians 1

SUBJECT/NOTES:

  • We are not great, but God is. If we are in Him and Him in us then we can be great. Your trust has to be in the Lord for Him to make up the difference.
  • Success is living a life unto the Lord, your position doesn’t matter as long as you’re willing to serve.
  • An apples purpose is to get nourishment from the tree then give nourishment; our purpose is to get nourishment from the Lord and give nourishment to others.
  • We are saved by grace but grace isn’t there to support a lack of love.
  • When you have been accepted into the beloved, washed in His blood, you have everything that matters; what more do you want?
  • A faithful minister is one who brings that which they were given without change.
  • He doesn’t leave you lacking, if you’re lacking it’s all on you.
  • There’s no one that doesn’t need to know the sufficiency of His blood. How can you love others when you esteem yourself? You can’t. Know that Christ is sufficient.
  • The way the victory in Christ looks we tend to think we will enjoy in our flesh; our own understanding of what’s good is so screwed up. If you’re feelings are going to be your guide they lie to you continuously about what is good.
  • Christ calls you to go all in with Him. The walk of faith is not by sight but by faith. He knows better than any of us how to accomplish that in each of us.

Services Referenced:

Subject

  • The things of the world fade away when Christ becomes bigger and more important than all other things.
  • The Lord paid the debt of sin and death that no one else could pay, for all. He not only paid that debt, he also has many gifts that you can receive and walk in now.
  • Jesus is faithful and just to forgive you your sins when you repent, how faithful are you to forgive others? There is no limit in how much you should forgive because there is no limit in how much Christ forgives.
  • How often do you humble yourself and ask for what you need, ask for forgiveness?
  • If you have thoughts and desires of wickedness or hatred toward others, if you entertain them, that is no different than following through with the act. You are guilty. That is not love which you are called to operate in toward all men.
  • When you really forgive others of something, it is gone. To get free you need to be able to forgive all. You will not hold anything against them. There is no sting.
  • There is never justification for holding a grudge. It your choice to forgive and be free.
  • There is no place in God’s kingdom for an angry or unforgiving heart. You will not receive from the Lord if you are unwilling to give it out.
  • Christ is freedom!
  • If your focus is the gospel and wanting to bring the freedom to others, you will not take things personal. Christ came to set the captives free.
  • You can hope for others because you know what the Lord has done for you, he wants to do it for others as well.
